LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — An early-morning shooting Friday on Winchester Road killed one man and sent another to the hospital, police said.
Officers responded to a report of assault with a weapon at 2:37 a.m. on the 900 block of Winchester Road where they found the two victims.
The Fayette County coroner said 35-year-old Cyrus Davis died from his injuries at about 3:09 a.m. The other 24-year-old victim was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Police do not have any information about a possible suspect.
Lexington police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said the shooting does not appear to be random, but said it is too early to determine whether it is connected to other shootings in the city this week.
“Very truly, it does not appear these are random,” Brackel said. “This is not a situation where someone is sitting in a car and randomly someone comes up and shoots at them. These are more targeted, which in some ways, hopefully, will give some solace.”
Winchester Road is back open after being closed in both directions during the investigation.
Brackel encouraged the public to reach out with any information they might have about the shooting.
“That’s how these things get solved is help from the public,” he said. “We might even have a situation where someone driving by has a camera on their dashboard. And at first, they said, ‘I just need to get out of here.’ And then they’re going to look at the camera see that they’ve got some evidence and hopefully give us a call.”
