All sex offenders are mandated by law to notify the Sheriff’s Office of any changes in their information so that their file is updated in the state’s sex offender registry as well as the national sex offender registry. This information is accessible to the public as a safety resource.

Sex offenders are individuals who have been found guilty of a sexually oriented crime. While the crimes classified as sexually oriented may differ in each state, there are several that are widely accepted as a sex crime such as rape, incest, and sexual assault.

To locate any sex offenders living in Kentucky, the state has an online sex offender registry you can access here.

It is important to understand that any information in the database  cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate. There may be search results that only reveal an offender’s last known address or the neighborhood that he currently lives in.

Bail and Bondsman

Bail is when the court permits an accused individual to get out of custody or jail for the remainder of the time before his trial starts with the understanding that he will appear before the court at his trial. In certain cases, a monetary value is attached to this condition. The accused is required to pledge money to the court that will serve as a secondary guarantee. Missing a court appearance will forfeit the money.

If you find yourself unable to pay the bail because you lack money, a bondsman can be secured to pledge the money to the court. A bondsman typically charges 8-10% of the bail amount for his services. In addition, the fee is non-refundable.

The commercial bail bond industry is illegal in Kentucky. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). Bond agents from outside Kentucky seeking to arrest a bail jumper who has fled to Kentucky must get a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
